What a Move of the Holy Spirit Is Not

This is may be an outpouring of something, but it is not the Holy Spirit.

  1. How do you know this is not the work of The Holy Spirit? (and I ask that respectfully, not trying to argue).

    1. For it does not add up with who God the Holy Spirit is and how He reveled Himself and Triune Gospel in the Word of God which is inspired by God the Holy Spirit.

    2. Anonymous,
I say that this is not a work of the Holy Spirit because nowhere in Scripture do we see any such utter chaos and nonsense, except perhaps in the behavior of those who were demon possessed. God is not a God of confusion, yet this is pure confusion. Scripture offers no indication that the true Spirit of God would yield such fruit. How would such behavior possibly benefit the kingdom of God?

    3. I would ask how this behavior edifies the body or in anyway points someone to Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit always points to Christ not himself or people and people are humbled and God exalted. I see none of that in this behavior and it is misleading so many.

    4. Dear Anonymous:

I respect the fact that you do not want to be contentious by asking the question "How do you know this is not of the Holy Spirit?" Tell me, based only upon the Scriptures, how you might think that it could be? Please site appropriate Scripture verses within the total context of what is written.

Also, I might suggest you access particular videos on You Tube showing the practice and manifestations of Kundalini Yoga. Then compare what you see in those videos with the manifestations of these spirits which are routinely practiced in many renowned Word Faith, Holy Laughter, Drunk-in-the-Spirit charismania churches and ministries around the world. Satan is glorified and God is maligned by these silly-looking, chaotic, embarrassing outpourings of evil. Sorry, but this bears no resemblance to what we read about in the New Testament, but completely resembles what happened at Mt. Carmel when the prophets of Baal got themselves whipped up in a frenzy in an effort to out perform Almighty God, only to be wholly defeated by His power. I'm not terribly politically correct about this am I? But this kind of behavior saddens and sickens me.

  2. "Be sober and alert. Your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion, is on the prowl looking for someone to devour." ~ 1 Peter 5:8

They might think they are drunk with "spirit" and they are with some kind of a spirit as they are being inoculated by it to numb them down to the fact that they are being feasting on.

"Counterfeit experiences move upon the soul and the body of man. Thus the emotions are stirred to an unstable state, the soul being the seat of the emotional life. The body is moved upon by the demonic counterfeiters, who make it tingle, fall, shake and react in an uncontrollable manner.

Biblical experiences are centered upon the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ, (never) upon the Holy Spirit or experience for experience's sake. Biblical experience occurs because the believer is longing to commune with the Lord, longing to please and obey Him. If one seeks experience for itself alone, it is rather like seeking lustful things rather than falling in love with someone. The experiences of lust are many, but they can never compare with sharing a love relationship with another human being, despite the physical merging involved in both relationships. So it is with spiritual relationship. Experience instead of Christ alone is so self-centered that no true spiritual gain or joy results, nor do those thus deceived please God in any way. Rather a curious frustration and a bondage to the experiences develops, and a painful desire for more which is never satisfied ravages the deluded. They end up often seeking for another "fix" on and on.

The (real) Presence of God is entirely different. When God moves He communes with (the spirit) of the believer: The body and soul are awake and fully alert; The spirit is softened; the will remains free but God draws (gently) into a conformity to His will. There is always beauty, harmony, holiness and grace when God makes His Presence manifest. Never does the Holy Spirit of the Lord bring about foolish, uncouth or unclean actions. He can fill a room with His Presence, but the spirit is affected never the senses and the body. The body may be overcome by the Presence of God but it is not the centre of a spiritual phenomenon. An emotion of love surely comes towards God, but never a sensual perversion. The emotional response in a Godly experience is secondary, holy, uplifting and pure. The believer is made aware of God by an enlightening in the spirit, very seldom by an appearance which the senses, such as the eyes, the nose or the ears, apprehend. (Hebrews 10:38; 2 Peter 1;2-8)."~quotes from Wendy Howard

  5. EBenz is right, nowhere does the Bible identify this kind of behavior as the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

The influence of the devil results in lunatic “sore vexed” behavior and dangerous falling:

    Matthew 17:14-18
14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. 16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. 17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. 18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

The influence of the Holy Spirit results in declaring the testimony of God and preaching Jesus Christ and Him crucified:

    1 Corinthians 2
2 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

In this video I see a lot of the former behavior and none of the latter. May the Lord grant these poor people the grace to repent and escape from this tragic deception. Carol

  6. yep lack of discernment, apostasy is rampant in churches around the world! Where I'm from in africa there are tons of churches and christians but the lack of discernment and the wolves ravaging the church there is unbelievable. The devil and his minions are not focused on america or the west and easing off on churches in other parts of the world, it's happening even where there's a recent sharp increase increase in new christians (ex: middle east).

I know American discernment blogs focus on western preachers but I wish they'd also focus more on false teachers and non discerning preachers around the world.
