James MacDonald Celebrates 35 Years of T.D. Jakes

The reader may recall some early June hoopla surrounding the 35th anniversary of T.D. Jakes' ministry. Ironically, the excitement appeared to be generated by...T.D. Jakes Ministries. Nowhere was this more evident than in the star-studded "Triumphant Journey" event, which seemed to easily call to mind 2 Timothy 3:2.
The red carpet at T.D. Jakes' 35th
anniversary event.

The Christian Post reported on 8 June:
A black-tie gala featuring a surprise star-studded guest list will be held Friday night to celebrate Bishop T.D. Jakes' 35th anniversary of ministry service. The event titled "Triumphant Journey" will be held at the AT&T Winspear Opera House in Dallas, Texas.
In addition to celebrating 35 years since he entered into ministry, Jakes will be marking several other milestones, including his 30th wedding anniversary to Serita Jakes, his 55th birthday, and 15th anniversary of The Potter's House of Dallas, Inc.
(Source)
At the time, we commented that
apparently the phrase "star-studded guest list" was not an exaggeration, depending upon one's definition of a "star." Rev. James Meeks, who pastors Salem Baptist Church of Chicago, was among the many invited to attend this "Triumphant Journey" down Jakes' memory lane. Meeks spent the evening tweeting out updates to his Twitter followers, thus revealing who were among the "stars" at this celebration of T.D. Jakes. The presence of the three most well-known names who graced the stage ought not surprise: Oprah Winfrey, pastrix Paula White and Bill Hybels. (Source)
Nearly one month later, however, we no longer have to rely on the tweets of James Meeks or on reporters or the media. T.D. Jakes Ministries recently uploaded onto their Facebook page 184 pictures (as of this writing) detailing the "35th Anniversary Weekend." These photos tell a story of glitz, glamour, fame and exaltation. In fact, one would barely recognize the event as one designed to honor an under-shepherd of the Lord Jesus Christ. But then, perhaps that is because the Christian should seek to honor Christ Himself, and not men.

Right: Pastrix Paula White gets interviewed on the red carpet.

Jakes welcomes Pastrix Sheryl and Bishop Joby Brady.
The photos above do paint a dazzling picture, yet most would not be surprised to see these particular individuals at this event. The post T.D. Jakes Celebrates 35 Years of T.D. Jakes, demonstrated in detail that Paula White, Oprah Winfrey and Bill Hybels each have a history with the charismatic prosperity preacher. Of course, Pastrix Sheryl and Bishop Joby Brady together pastor The Potter's House North Dallas, and are quite close with Jakes.

Yet, there was another couple in attendance at this event whose presence may come as a bit more of a surprise:
Kathy and James MacDonald
The MacDonalds pose with Pastor and "First Lady" Meeks.
The photographs above show Pastor James MacDonald of Harvest Bible Chapel and his wife, Kathy, posing on the red carpet at the T.D. Jakes 35th anniversary event.

Now, there's no need to detail again the events leading up to, during, and following the Elephant Room 2. Suffice it to say that James MacDonald's support of "trinitarian modalist" and Word Faith preacher T.D. Jakes does not appear to be waning.

In T.D. Jakes, HGAAA and the Lingering Questions of ER2, it was asked of James MacDonald:
Do you continue to embrace as orthodox T.D. Jakes and his ministry, even though he has shown no repentance of the Modalism that he supposedly has rejected? ... Does it disturb you that Jakes has not yet repented of nor ceased preaching the heretical prosperity gospel? Is it acceptable to you that this man, whom you have celebrated, supports and affirms female pastors who are in direct violation of the Word of God?
Well, perhaps we have our answers.
Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works. (2 John 1:9-11)

  1. 35 years of self-seeking, self honoring, self righteousness, health and wealth damning prosperity gospel from a false teacher wow.. It's obvious that the world loves TD Jakes as its OWN.

What about Christians in Sudan that are putting their lives on the line and being slaughtered for sharing the Gospel so that people will be saved? The world would never acknowledge nor even honor our true heroes for the faith. -Men and women whom no one even knows-not even their name...Their rewards are in heaven and Jesus knows them. All glory and honor go to GOD for , "What have you that you did not receive?" (1 Cor. 4:7)

Luke 6:26 "Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets."

    1. I heard Paul Washer a few years ago say that if this prosperity gospel were preached in the poor countries of the world that it would be laughed off of the stage. I just wonder how many have died to bring this "gospel" to other parts of the globe?

    2. Do you mean OWN as in Oprah Winfrey Network :) Yes she fits right in to honor Jakes as herself being one who is self-seeking, self honoring, etc.

  2. Oh my! King James didn't tell his sheep about his going to celebrate TD Jakes. He did tell the sheep a few weeks ago how he was going to meet with a few people regarding the ER fallout to try to reconcile things. I don't imagine his honoring of Jakes with his presence would sit too well with those with whom he needed to reconcile. But then again, they were probably in the dark about it, just like his sheep.

  3. Jewelry, diamonds, rings, bracelets, reveling dresses, expensive purses, expensive suits, expensive watches, red carpet, champagne, camera lights, press and lots of fake smiles mixed with politics and deal making... Did we not see this before? Is this a gathering of godly leaders? Is this a gathering of the men and women of God? No, this is a gathering of wolfs and servants of satan in love with this world and what it has for them. And who is coming there with a homage??? Who is coming there with a fellowship and with full support? Who is coming there with "brotherly" greeting?
Yes, it is James MAcDonald and Bill Hybles. Is there anything else one needs to understand who those men really are? After all of the controversy and division MacDonald caused by endorsement of a money pimp and a sabellian heretic Jakes he had no second thoughts whatsoever to do it all over again and come to honor the pimp who robbed tens if not hundreds of thousands of their money and all of that in the name of Jesus... Wow.

"But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam's error and perished in Korah's rebellion. These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever."

O My people! Those who guide you lead you astray and confuse the direction of your paths.

The Lord enters into judgment with the elders and princes of His people, “It is you who have devoured the vineyard; the plunder of the poor is in your houses"...

In that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets, headbands, crescent ornaments, dangling earrings, bracelets, veils, headdresses, ankle chains, sashes, perfume boxes, amulets, finger rings, nose rings, festal robes, outer tunics, cloaks, money purses, hand mirrors, undergarments, turbans and veils.

Now it will come about that instead of sweet perfume there will be putrefaction; Instead of a belt, a rope; Instead of well-set hair, a plucked-out scalp; Instead of fine clothes, a donning of sackcloth; And branding instead of beauty.

Seriously, listen to this sermon clip that I linked.

I did and then I couldn't help but ask myself this question, "Did someone steal my friend and partner in ministry, James MacDonald, and replace him with this imposter?"

    1. Please forgive me if I am wrong but the signs were in place long before when the guy bought 2 million dollar mansion in Inverness 8 years ago. There is nothing wrong with that as long as you are not a pastor and many of your sheep make less than you pay in taxes...

      Delete
    2. What does being a pastor have to do with it? And how do you know what James pays in taxes??

If you actually knew James, you would know that this house isn't the result of James being paid a high salary, this is the result of good stewardship of personal investments (not related to ministry, but other sources). Some choose to keep their retirement investments locked away in accounts. Others choose to use their investments and buy a big house where they can host others. (To me, this seems like a wiser use in the long run, especially for a pastor who wants to be hospitable.)

It's so easy to judge. It's so much harder to believe the best. Might be time for a 1 Cor. 13 refresh.

      Delete
    3. i know the earnings are not from a church salary, but do you know if it is from proceeds of ministry related things like book royalties and sermon sales or walk in the word? (i really don't know)

Regardless of the source of the earnings, a believer does not need a house that is not in scale with his congregants and fellow elders to steward in hospitality. I don't think the number of people or frequency he hosts is directly proportionate to the cost of his home. But it was his decision.

      Delete
    4. No, my understanding is that it has nothing to do with ministry (it was through inheritances and wise investments of that money). James has always maintained very open books about what he and his staff earn and they get audited each year by an independent group. There is nothing extravagant about what he is paid, quite the opposite.

To be honest, I'm from Canada and a house approaching $1million is not uncommon because the average house price isn't far below that. We haven't had the housing crash that you have experienced in the States. (Who knows what his house is worth now anyway since house prices have dropped...it was purchased in 1994 for $450K) Beyond that, it is wrong to assume that his motives are bad. How can you know that? Why not let God be the Judge?

I remember a friend who drove a BMW because it had been the cheapest ,most reliable car he could find (someone had sold it to him for a cheaper price than he could get a little Civic for). He took a lot of flack as a preacher for that purchase and finally just sold it and bought a Civic. It's sad that we are so quick to judge without knowing the whole story.

    5. It is not how much he makes and how. It is how he uses it in light of being a shepherd of 10K plus congregation. Someone said that if the shepherd's lifestyle eclipses that of most of his sheep he is no longer their shepherd and servant but a master only and that surely comes to realization in MacDonald's pride, arrogance, abuse and "catapulting schemes".

    6. The home was purcgased from a former Illinois Senator for just under 2 million dollars.

      Delete
    7. There's nothing wrong with money itself and if God has chosen you to be wealthy. It's how we use what God has given us-responsibility comes with lots of money. "For whom much is given much is required"...
There are wealthy Christians and there's no reason to be shameful or feel guilty about that. It's ALL because of God's grace that we have what we have. If it pleases God that some Christians are rich then glory all goes to God and find out how he would have you use it. We ARE to be good stewards with HIS THINGS (true riches)

However, there are many who have done what 1Ti 6:10says.

"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs."

I can't help but believe that James MacDonald has done this. I'm hoping this is the case and that God will grant him repentance ---that he will see all the damage he's done
The longer he continues on this path the more concerned I am that 2 John 1:9-11 is true for him.

Christians CAN fall into sin and even grievous sins for a TIME. But a genuine believer will not remain in that sin. God disciplines and rebukes those he loves and if he doesn't then that person is an illegitimate child and none of his.

Luk 16:10 "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.

Luk 16:11 So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?
Luk 16:12 And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else's property, who will give you property of your own?

  5. Yep Despeville we know who TD Jakes' god is--Money and all that comes with it, fame, praises from men rather than obtaining the only praises of God-John 5:44.

So, James running ahead at this point means-2 John 1:9-11 (he does not have God)because he is not abiding in the teaching of Christ... those who are God's children would be disciplined and rebuked-God would not allow them to continue in that state and live like this... I'm saddened when I see people who claim to be Christians not repenting-that could very well mean they have never been born again

People like Beth Moore running ahead-same thing
People teaching false teachings running ahead like John Piper..

No repentance.. My heart is strangely warmed when a brother or sister caught up in false teachings repents -it is evidence that they are one of God's children...

These people need our prayers that GOD would have mercy and bring them to repentance...

  7. Those panderers of T.D. Jakes must all be labeled false teachers. If they cannot discern the difference between the teachings of T.D. Jakes and what the BIble says, they are not worthy of trust. These shepherds are telling the flocks that wolves like Jakes are okay to let in and devour them. They are no longer worthy to be shepherds.

    1. I agree Glenn.. The issue is very simple... any alleged shepherd that allows or empowers wolves is a clear and present danger and obnoxious to the flock of God and therefore to God Himself.

    2. what did Jesus say to those preaching in His name but were not of Him to the disciples? He said let them go...which has a dual meaning. One is God makes wrong right...the other is let them go or turn them over to their disception. Either way....we must be careful in criticizing Those who Preach and Teach God's word even if we don't agree with it. Like King Saul God use's evil, misguided leaders to recieve His ultimate Glory. We should take the log out of our eyes....God keeps perfect books we should mind our own business.

I am sure your desire is to try and bring peace but in doing so you are unwittingly giving tacit acceptance to some degree of error and false teachers.

Christians are commanded to defend the faith that was once for all given to the saints-Jude 1:3. Disobeying this command is disobedience the Lord.

And anyhoo if someone is putting a little drop of cyanide in a full cup of water on and on to people, would you not warn people every single time or would you think Gee "God makes wrong right..let them go or turn them over to their deception".. Would you actually consider it helpful criticism or hurtful criticism?

Same thing with exposing error. we must expose error every time we can and be the clarion call for the TRUTH in hopes that people will turn away from the "cyanide" of these people's errors and turn to Christ of Scripture.

    4. Anon, God never makes a wrong into something that is right. He always punishes the wrong and the doer of the wrong whether by eternal damnation in hell or by placing our rightfully due punishment on His Son at the cross.

As for TDJ he is preaching another gospel with another jesus that he directs people to, a jesus that cannot save you because he is a false jesus, with no breathe, no life and no power to save. TDJ has on many occasions and by his own words denied the Bible, the Faith, and the Lord Jesus. According to Gal. 1:6-9 TD Jakes is accursed. Note that it is not the message that he preaches that is accursed, but the man that does the preaching. If you choose to believe that TDJ is a true minister of the real Gospel, do so at your own peril. If he does not repent of his sins and believe the true Gospel he will spend eternity in hell. Are you prepared to follow him there?

  8. T.D. Jakes and the others seem to be Puffed Up, Lovers of themselves ... we should NEVER as TRUE followers of Christ, look to showcase our ministries, churches and efforts we do to further the Kingdom. Its seems that even "worship" leaders and "Gospel" singers want rewards here on earth as well. Very sad that many are following the ways of the world when we should be influencing the world.

"We should take the log out of our eyes...."

The only way we need to take the log out from our eyes is if we specifically are pimping for money, support sebelian mpdalist heretics that deny One Triune God and His Gospel or we go to Hollywood style parties to rub elbows with worldly heretics or those who do support them. I don't know about you but I do not do that therefore your warning is pointless and misguided as is your isogesis of that Scripture as to this regard which we specifically discuss here.
Although I am a rotten sinner in daily need of Grace that does not mean that your assertion stands and let me assure you that the day I sell out for money while pimping false "Jesus" I will not criticize those who did same before me and you will be free to point out my apostasy. I am pretty sure that day will not come although you would not hear about it anyway as I do not lead 10,000 plus people before God with full responsibility for that as well...

  11. Fyi, Harvest Bible Chapel & Pastor James MacDonald always call their intro event for membership-seeking people: "Partying With The Pastors"!

Partying for James MacDonald now includes honoring a major known heretic and rejector of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

How does James justify celebrating 35 years of wicked, false teaching?

I call that nothing short of betrayal of Jesus Christ.

  12. I'm just... shocked. I've followed J.M. for a while and even attended HBC in Rolling Meadows. I need to talk to an elder there about this, I don't care if they don't listen but I think it is my duty as a regular attender on/off for 6 years to at least point out the problems here?

  13. Anonymous, unless you are a tithing member who is involved at Harvest, your concerns will likely fall on deaf ears. MacDonald recently shared 3 criteria that needed to be met before you could bring concerns forth. Does anyone have that sermon link? 14. Harvest Bible. Look at your leadership. Oprah W. who stated Messiah Jesus is not the only way. One who teaches occult teachings with Eckhart Tollee. Who spoke at your church recently while Macdonald was away? Remember the comments that this individual made during the Elephant Room controversy?
Paula White?? Send me $99.99 NOW to recieve your healing? MacDonald Lies. It's always a bit of info but not the facts he did not tell Harvest that this week he will be celebrating with T.D. Jakes, Oprah, Paula White and other phonies because HARVEST IS AN ENTERTAINMENT VENUE. NOT MUCH DIFFERENT FROM TONY ROBERTS AND ANY OTHER MOTIVATIONAL MIND CONTROL CULT LEADERS. No Pastor can be in touch with his congregation when he lives above them. No. His wealth is not the problem. But when you live away from your area of ministry in a luxurious compound and after preaching about giving and sacrafice so on and half of your congregation are living check to check it is not real. May God have mercy it did not start out this way with MacDonald. Look at how the youth leaders mimick the culture. The Muslim missionaries that are here snatching the young people away laugh at our leadership.

  17. I've been attending a Harvest Bible Chapel on and off for a year now. So far the pastor has been preaching a solid, uncompromising gospel. I am uncomfortable with the notion of "partying with the pastor" and have never attended. I feel we should fellowship, pray, study with our pastor, but party? I now have questions about the "Vertical Church" stuff. When I look at the site promoting the Vertical church tour, I see a lot of things that remind me of the apostate emergent church that I left. Worship is described as "window rattling, earth shattering, and life altering". What does it mean to "go vertical" and did Jesus tell us to ask God to show us His glory?
I am not a member of Harvest Bible Chapel, nor do I like the separation of church members from non members. I am concerned about the denomination. There is much good, but a little leaven can leaven the whole lump.
