Turned Away at the Door of the Elephant Room

About 45 minutes ago, a friend and I walked through the doors of Harvest Bible Chapel in Rolling Meadows, IL. Why? To attend The Elephant Room 2, of course! Upon approaching the registration desk, the volunteers noticed that they could not find my name tag. I was ushered to the side, where I was confronted by Harvest Bible Chapel elder Jim Rowan and told that my registration had been revoked and refunded and that I was to leave the premises immediately. One must wonder, how does this harmonize with the purpose statement of The Elephant Room which states, among other things:
The Elephant Room is more than an event. It is the outgrowth of an idea. The idea that the best way forward for the followers of Jesus lies not in crouching behind walls of disagreement but in conversation among all kinds of leaders about what the scriptures actually teach. We must insist on the biblical Gospel, right doctrine and practice but not isolate ourselves from relationship even with those who believe much differently. (Online Source)
So now we must conclude that a new elephant in the room is that only those who agree with James MacDonald are actually welcome in this new "tribe" that they are seeking to create.

The following will shed some additional light on this situation:

  1. As I said any times before. Most of leavenjellycalism is just one step away from embracing Rome completely... This inquisition like censorship you have encountered at MacDonald's place is just another example of the progressive götterdämmerung of wishy washy "how does this verse make you feel" leavenjellycalism as evidenced in MacDonald and his church...

  2. Very very sad. And even sadder that TGC can't get its act together to rebuke both James Macdonald AND Crawford Loritts. This is utter chaos what is going on. And yet the people that are told they are the troublemakers are discernment bloggers. (male OR female)

  4. MacDonald to Jakes: "You’ve honored us and shown us humility. Jesus stands with the humble. Get to those people who love my Son, believe my Word and express humility."

I wonder how that expressed humility adds up with Jakes' and MacDonald's multi million dollar mansions they live in in exclusive neighborhoods... Or maybe I am just to sensitive to phony baloney?

  5. Did they give any explanation as to "why" you were not permitted to attend? Seems like they owe you an explanation.

My guess, is they don't like your critiques (blogs) and find them divisive.

A few months ago, during a sermon, MacDonald mentioned there was a handful (5 or 6 I think) of people banned from the church. He was saying during one sermon, 1 of those people was there (Mac was kind of playing himself as the victim/hero -- bravely preaching when an "adversary" was just a few feet a way.

Of course, we the sheep are never informed of the specifics -- you know "tell the church". So we don't know who the people are or what they did.

I wonder if you are on the list now.

So shameful for Harvest to act this way. Hey Harvest, what's your explanation? Your sheep, at least this one, is paying attention.

  6. I listened to parts of this so called conference, what a sad thing it was. It's intention as you have it posted states the idea was to be in "conversation among all kinds of leaders about what the scriptures actually teach." If I am not mistaken Jesus had "conversations about what the scriptures actually taught" and I am pretty sure these so called preachers would have been in disagreement with what Jesus had to say, because He addressed the issue of sin and declared the only means of slavation from sin was found in Him. The Elephant in the room is that this was no conference to talk about what the scriptures actually taught but a forum to bash true Christian Preachers that hold fast to the right teaching of Law and Gospel (i.e. the teaching an proclimation of the whole council of God). From what I heard they bashed people like me that believe in the truth of scripture and uphold the churches doctrine (which is shaped wholly by the word of God by grace alone through faith alone) But I guess that I am doing something wrong because my church only has 500 members and I know each one of them by name!

  8. @ Despeville

Well, WE know that an unconverted heart cannot please God. Unbelievers can show great humility but it's never based on the righteousness of Jesus Christ!

True humility ONLY Comes from a heart that recognizes that JESUS gets all the glory and honor because HE is the sweet smelling aroma pleasing to the Father and we merely get the wonderful privilege and honor of thanking GOD boasting in HIM and our hearts soar beyond the clouds to the throne of grace with obeisance all because of the lowly Jesus not us who is our praise. Jesus Christ gets all the glory and honor in our life as our greatest joy and delight in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit-(Rev.3:20) and that satiates our deepest hunger and thirst==TD Jakes cannot do that since he does not worship the One true God in Spirit and in Truth so all his humility is false humility for himself is all

sorry got carried away and digressed from the subject at hand but I couldn't help it

  9. It is unbiblical to have these clandestine type meetings unlike our Lord. belies their former statements of --"not in crouching behind walls of disagreement but in conversation"

Jesus said-"I have spoken openly to the world," Jesus replied. "I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.John 18:20

When people meet like this then they are suspicious and hiding something.

John 3:20 "Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

what should we expect with modalist TD Jakes there? they are only interested in monologue not dialogue because it's presumably for only people who can share one mode at a time. And their views are that they were referring ONLY to themselves when they said--"not in crouching behind walls of disagreement but in conversation" (inside the Elephant room)

  10. "Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will, than for doing evil."
    (1 Peter 3:13-17 ESV)

Where is the gentleness? Where is your respect?

Just words of thought. I don't want to be the one calling my brother a wolf. Sure, it is good to never call a wolf a brother, but let us use God-given and spirit filled discernment.

    In Christ,
    Jesse
