What DOES the World Need Now?

Oh brother. I received this video in an email forward with the subject line "What the World Needs Now."

Sadly, this "we can make the world a better place if we all just get along" video came from a Christian who indicated that this was what the world needed more of. Really? The world needs more hugs? REALLY? Let me just say that if a stranger walks up to me on the street and gives me a "free hug" they'll be receiving a "free hit" in response. It's this universalist, "all we need is love" mentality that is debilitating more Christians then even the infiltrating pagan practices are. Do you want to know what this world really needs now? Jesus Christ.

"I [Jesus] am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture." John 10:9

"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.” John 3:16-20

"Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures" 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

"Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:14-15

"And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Acts 2:38

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed." 2 Peter 3:9-10

  2. Oh yes, nothing gives me the "warm fuzzies" like the thought of a complete stranger walking up to me on the street and hugging me! But you know, if we would just "love" everyone a little bit more then this world would be a much better place to live. Yeah, right.
